Portugal has officially joined the global circuit of Startup World Cup, and national startups now have until August 2 to submit their applications for a chance to win $1 million in direct investment from Silicon Valley’s Pegasus Tech Ventures.
This is the first time Portugal is hosting a national stage of the prestigious global competition, positioning itself on the map of international innovation, as reported by ECO.
“Hosting Startup World Cup in Portugal is more than hosting the world’s largest startup competition – it is about putting Portuguese innovation and talent under the spotlight of the international innovation and investment ecosystem,” Rui Sales Rodrigues, executive director of Startup World Cup Portugal, was quoted as saying.
The national competition will take place at Unicorn Factory Lisboa, on September 10 and 11.
The first day will be dedicated to an exclusive conference, featuring renowned speakers, thematic panels on investment and innovation, hands-on workshops, and networking spaces. On the second day, 15 finalists, selected from a pool of 50 startups, will pitch before a jury. The winner will be announced on the same day.
The winner will represent Portugal at the Grand Finale in San Francisco on October 16 and 17.
Organized by Pegasus Tech Ventures, which manages over $2 billion in assets, Startup World Cup features over 100 regional events, 50,000 participants, 2,500 investors, and 500 speakers. It draws founders, investors, and industry leaders to explore innovations across sectors including health, energy, fintech, mobility, education, and entertainment.
Startups interested in applying can find the full conditions and submit their applications via the official application page.
