Build Up Labs, a Lisbon-based venture builder and startup incubator, has opened applications for the third edition of Startup Essentials – a free, one-month ignition initiative aimed at aspiring entrepreneurs.

The program runs from September 17 to October 21 at HOOD in Lisbon and includes a Demo Day where participants pitch to investors and ecosystem leaders for a chance to win three months of free incubation.

Startup Essentials is designed for early-stage founders – particularly those in the idea or pre-seed phase – who want to turn initial concepts into viable businesses. The program places a strong emphasis on helping participants build startups with international potential.

“Promoting entrepreneurship in Portugal is a big part of our mission at Build Up Labs, and our Startup Essentials is our flagship program to bring that mission to life,” Rui Gouveia, CEO of Build Up Labs, told Portugal Startup News.

“We guide the founders through the complexities of building a startup that not only thrives locally but is also primed for international expansion and impact.”

The four-week program includes seven hands-on workshops covering areas such as idea validation, MVP development, business model design, go-to-market strategy, sales, and fundraising. Participants also gain access to mentorship, peer learning opportunities, and pitch preparation.

While one standout team is typically awarded three months of free incubation at Build Up Labs after the program, the last edition saw more than one winner thanks to the participants’ exceptional results.

“We were truly impressed by the entrepreneurial talent we’ve had the privilege to work with in the previous two editions. In fact, the last cohort had such a strong performance during the program that we ended up selecting three winners instead of the usual one,” Gouveia noted.

With a track record that includes five startup exits – most recently the acquisition of Tap My Back, an employee engagement platform, by a Texas-based company in 2023 – Build Up Labs brings operational experience and founder-focused support to the table.

Applications for Startup Essentials are open until August 17, with limited spots available. More information and the application form can be found on the program’s official website
