Portuguese startup Purrmi, which produces “100% natural” cat food, has raised €600,000 to accelerate its international expansion and strengthen factory capacity, ECO reported.
The company plans to enter Italy, France, and Northern Europe, while continuing to grow in Portugal and Spain where it already operates.
With this round, Purrmi’s total funding reaches €900,000. The investment was led by a Portuguese family office linked to the agri-food industry, with participation from VC Celtis Venture Partners, Angels Way, and several business angels.
Speaking to the publication, Co-founder and CEO João Campaniço said the new, undisclosed partner brings “valuable strategic positioning to scale our model,” in addition to capital.
A portion of the funding – about €150,000 to be executed by the end of 2026 – will be used to expand the company’s factory in Guilhabreu, Vila do Conde. Plans include enlarging the operating area, reorganizing logistics, hiring specialized local workers, and preparing for a new product line scheduled for 2026.
Expansion into new markets will begin in the first half of 2026, with Italy as the priority in the first quarter. Purrmi points to Italian consumers’ high per capita spending on premium pet food and strong use of digital channels as reasons for prioritizing the market.
The expansion will follow an asset-light model, with decentralized logistics targeting 48-hour delivery, partnerships with veterinary clinics and local marketplaces, and a digital-first approach.
Spain has already become a significant market for the company after a remote-only entry, representing about 20% of monthly turnover. According to Campaniço, local partnerships and remote operations gave the company more flexibility compared to its earlier plan to establish a physical presence in Barcelona.
Purrmi positions itself as a premium brand designed to address major feline health problems, particularly obesity and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Studies suggest around 45% of cats are overweight or obese in many clinical populations. Chronic kidney disease, meanwhile, is one of the leading health problems in cats, causing both death and long-term illness that reduces quality of life in older animals.
To further support personalized animal nutrition, the startup has been scaling its NutriPetPlan.com platform. Using artificial intelligence, the service analyzes a photo of the animal to estimate breed, age, size, and body condition, then recommends tailored nutrition plans by comparing more than 4,000 products across different budgets. It also provides 24-hour veterinary support.
Purrmi’s goal is to feed more than 100,000 animals through NutriPetPlan and its own brand within the next 12 months.
The company has also been growing its team. In September, three hires brought the core staff to six people, and new positions in data science, engineering, and veterinary are expected to be added by the second quarter of 2026.
