Portugal Startup News

Startup Portugal has selected 115 startups for this year’s Road 2 Web Summit, increasing the total number of companies supported under the program to more than one thousand since it began in 2016. 

The program helps early-stage and growth-stage startups prepare for Web Summit and access international exposure, coordinated by Startup Portugal, the non-profit that supports the government in implementing the national entrepreneurship strategy. This year’s Web Summit takes place in Lisbon from November 10 to 13. 

“Road 2 Web Summit is more than a support program, it is a starting point for many success stories,” Alexandre Santos, president of Startup Portugal, said in a statement cited by ECO, which also reports that the startups in this year’s cohort have already raised a combined total of around €40 million.  

Santos added the evolution of Portuguese startups “shows that our ecosystem continues to gain scale, talent, and international recognition, asserting itself as one of the most dynamic and innovative in Europe.”

Artificial intelligence, healthtech, and cleantech lead the sector distribution in the 2025 group, with representation also from proptech, fintech, logistics, and hardware and IoT.

Less than half of the selected companies are based in Lisbon and Porto, with the rest coming from other parts of the country, including Coimbra, Braga, Leiria, Guimarães, and Covilhã.

The startups took part in bootcamps held in Lisbon and Porto, and during Web Summit they will compete for two awards: one recognizing the most promising startup, with €15,000, and another for the best performance across the bootcamps and the conference, with €5,000.
