At Portugal Startup News, we are committed to delivering accurate, trustworthy, and human-centered journalism.

As part of our editorial process, we sometimes use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist with certain aspects of content creation. This page explains how we use AI, and more importantly, how we do not use it.

How we use AI

  • Language clarity and style: We use AI tools to improve grammar, readability, and flow, ensuring articles are polished and easy to read.
  • Rewording and editing support: AI may suggest alternative phrasing, sentence structure, or headline ideas. Final choices are always made by a human editor.
  • Brainstorming and drafting assistance: In some cases, AI helps us explore angles, structure outlines, or generate early drafts. These drafts are always reviewed, edited as needed, and fact-checked by our editorial team.
  • Image enhancement: We occasionally use AI to improve image quality (such as adjusting sharpness, lighting, or resolution) without altering the original content. If an image is AI-generated, it is clearly labeled as such.
  • Video content: If we produce a video that is fully or partly generated using AI, it will be clearly disclosed and labeled so viewers understand its origin.

How we do not use AI

  • No sourcing of information: We never rely on AI to collect, verify, or generate facts, statistics, or quotes. All information in our stories is gathered from credible sources and verified by our journalists.
  • Credible sources only: All information, data, and statistics are linked to their original sources. We only use credible references – in most cases official company communications and reliable reports.
  • No unchecked content: Nothing produced by AI is published without human review. Every sentence, statistic, and figure is supervised, fact-checked, and confirmed by an editor.
  • No fabricated material: We do not use AI to generate fictitious information, characters, or events. Accuracy and reliability remain our highest priority.
  • No automated links or references: We do not allow AI to insert links, references, or citations into our content. All links to campaign pages, reports, or company websites are added and verified by a human editor.

Corrections

Despite thorough fact-checking and editorial review, we recognize that human error is always possible. If a mistake is identified, we promptly update the article and transparently correct the record. Corrections are noted so our readers can clearly see what has been changed.

Our commitment

At Portugal Startup News, our responsibility is first and foremost to our readers. Accuracy, credibility, and transparency guide everything we publish.

Using AI responsibly allows us to focus more of our time on research, interviews, and analysis – while maintaining the highest editorial standards. Nothing replaces human judgment, and every story reflects the careful work of our editorial team.

We are committed to being transparent about how AI is used in our newsroom, and this policy will be updated as our practices evolve.
