The Portuguese startup Manie has acquired Payper, a Portuguese energy bill management app, to strengthen its position in the digital energy contract management market, as Jornal PT Green reports.

The acquisition integrates Payper’s user base of nearly 140,000 users into Manie’s ecosystem, reinforcing its strategy to scale automation in household energy management.

Payper enables consumers to track and analyze electricity bills, and will now be incorporated into Manie’s AutoSwitch service, which automatically switches energy contracts to more competitive tariffs.

Scaling automated energy switching

Manie’s platform is built around continuous tariff comparison and automated switching, designed to optimize energy costs with minimal user input.

Manie co-founder André Pedro highlighted AutoSwitch as the core of the company’s offering and said the acquisition strengthens its reach.

“AutoSwitch is the main pillar of our platform. With this acquisition, we now offer Payper users the possibility of joining Manie and benefiting from a complete energy management experience: automatic, efficient and always focused on real savings,” he said.

Transition of users and data continuity

Francisco Gonçalves, co-founder of Payper, said the deal extends the platform’s original mission of helping households manage energy costs more simply.

“Our mission has always been to help families save without complications. With Manie and AutoSwitch, we take this vision to the next level, adding more technology, scale, and concrete results for users,” he said.

According to the companies, customer data and usage history will be preserved during the transition, alongside continued support.

Growth and international expansion plans

Manie has processed more than 90,000 energy contract switches since its launch and currently serves around 26,000 active AutoSwitch customers. About 10% of users are subscribed to its Pro plan, which includes additional features.

Between 2024 and 2025, the startup recorded €1 million in revenue, reflecting increased adoption of digital energy optimization solutions.

The company has also expanded into Spain as part of its early international growth strategy. With the acquisition of Payper, Manie aims to strengthen its position in Portugal while building scale for broader expansion across European energy markets.
