Lisbon-based startup Humanos has raised $3.2 million in seed funding to develop infrastructure for monitoring and assessing the risks associated with AI agents, Sifted reports.

The round was led by Anthemis, with participation from Springbank, Critical Ventures, and Start Ventures. Transatlantic Highway Ventures also joined the round. Founders of Sword Health, Feedzai, and OutSystems also invested, among others.

A live risk score for AI agents

Founded last year, Humanos is building a network that continuously monitors AI agents and assigns each one a live risk score from 0 to 100. The score takes into account factors including who controls the agent, what permissions it has, its past behavior, and whether its current activity appears unusual.

As an agent’s permissions, behavior, or interactions change, so does its risk score. “Every time an agent acts, the risk changes because the memory changes,” CEO Pedro Andrade was quoted as saying.

He added that agents may operate with different levels of authorization and interact with both identified and unidentified actors.

Humanos also gives agents a “risk passport” that records their controls, incidents, and, eventually, economic outcomes.

Making AI agents easier to underwrite

The company plans for these passports to help financial providers determine when they are willing to offer insurance, credit, or capital to AI agents.

Andrade argues that traditional approaches to underwriting are not suited to autonomous systems because risk can change continuously rather than being assessed only once. “With agents, you cannot do that because you will get wrecked.”

Humanos is also developing a marketplace through which AI agent companies could access and manage products including insurance, credit, and yield. Its platform includes guardrails and enforcement tools designed to help companies reduce the risks associated with their agents.

Already deployed across more than 350 organizations

According to Sifted, Humanos’ infrastructure is already deployed across more than 350 fintech companies, hospitals, and insurers. Andrade said its first customer was an insurance company in Portugal, after which other organizations began approaching the startup.

Current partners include companies working across insurance, AI agent lending, and agentic crypto.

Andrade said established financial institutions have also been paying attention to the space, which influenced Humanos’ decision to choose Anthemis as the round’s lead investor.

“We believe that Humanos has the potential to become one of the core enabling layers of the agentic economy and facilitate the safe deployment of the productive potential of AI within our society,” Anthemis partner Marin Cauvas said.

In Portuguese hospitals, Humanos’ technology has primarily been used by AI agents to automate the collection of patient consent for treatment.

Funding to expand risk data and infrastructure

The company plans to use the funding to expand its risk data, improve its infrastructure, and grow its network of financial providers. It is targeting $1 billion in agentic economic activity processed through its infrastructure over the next 12 months.

Andrade said the company’s longer-term thesis is that an AI agent’s verified behavior will determine what it can do economically, including how much it can transact and what insurance, credit, or capital it can access.
